Biographical Data

Born March 8, 1936, New Haven, Connecticut.

Lieutenant, U. S. Marine Corps Reserve, 1957-60.

Married to Sadako Okano in June, 1965.  Two daughters: Jessica (born January, 1967) and Katherine (May, 1968).

 Teaching position at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, 1966-97, 99-01.  Promoted to Associate Professor in 1971; to Full Professor in 1980; Professor Emeritus, 1997.

Chair of department, 1973-76; Director of Graduate Studies, 1977-79, 85-86, 88-89, 92-93.

Visiting Scholar, Kyoto University, Fall, 1986.

Invited Professor, Kansai Gaidai University, 1997-99
